We’re delighted to share that at the beginning of 2022, Grove’s operational teams moved to a 4-day working week, with no reduction in salary and with all extra days worked paid.

Our whole family of Seren businesses, including Grove of Narberth, Michelin starred Beach House Restaurant in Oxwich, Coast Restaurant and Kiosk café in Saundersfoot, began transitioning towards this working philosophy in late 2021, ready to sustainably move to the new contracts from the 1st January 2022.

As part of this change in working, Seren has also introduced a profit share scheme, and all of its team, including everyone at Grove, will be eligible to share equitably in its ongoing success.

Owners Neil and Zoe Kedward take great satisfaction in how Seren has diligently established its venues over the years.  They have always been passionate about delivering a sustainable work-life balance for all their team living and working alongside them in Pembrokeshire and the Gower. In 2016, Grove was amongst the first hotels in the UK to introduce a 4-day flexible working week for chefs, where extra days worked are paid.  However, achieving this goal in its standalone restaurants has been a much harder challenge due to affordability and the impact of high seasonality and traditionally tight sector margins.

Seren Managing Director, Neil Kedward, said, ‘We’re humbled each day knowing that our success is deeply linked to our special team, who individually and collectively create the incredible experiences and memories that guests take away with them. We know how much valuable time they commit, and how their exceptional skills and loyalty to our venues help make it all happen. We’ve always been passionate about rewarding this commitment and the extraordinary level of professionalism in our teams by offering the best remuneration packages for the sector in Wales. But we need to go further, and so for us, there has never been a better time to make these transformative changes.
